Jonás García Rodríguez was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (The Canary Islands, Spain) in 1980. When he was thirteen, he started his half-autodidactic classical guitar studies helped by Juan Machado, who gave him occasional advice. At the age of fifteen, he started studying in a more systematic way with Vicente García Rodríguez.
In 1998, he gained admittance to the Conservatorio Profesional de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (the medium-level conservatory of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), where he studied with Antonio Ageno graduating in guitar in 2003. In the same year, he started the degree in Pedagogy of the guitar at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias (CSMC, the university school of music of the Canary Islands), studying for five years with Fernando Bautista, Carlos Oramas and José María Ramírez. Moreover, he finished the Traslation and Interpreting degree in 2002 at the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria University.
He has composed several solo classical guitar works. He has had master classes with Zoran Dukic, Ana Jenaro, Carles Herráiz, Eligio Quinteiro and Miguel Trápaga among others. Nowadays, he is teaching in the Escuela Municipal de Música de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (local music school in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). Lately, he has started studying jazz guitar with Yul Ballesteros.
